Remote Workforce Demands Biometric Identity Assurance

Passwordless login is the future of cybersecurity as it provides better protection against fraudulent attempts. Knowledge-based credentials have long been used to protect accounts from unauthorized access. However, criminals are getting more creative in developing tactics to bypass conventional identity proofing methods. It is no longer enough to use passwords to defend against cyberattacks in the digital age.

Moreover, regulatory bodies and other organizations constantly update their data privacy and security requirements for enterprises. They need to stay steps ahead of criminals to protect better the valuable data and assets they store and manage.

For example, many companies follow the Fast Identity Online (FIDO) Alliance’s newly released FIDO2 authentication protocol. This set of specifications allows users to leverage commonly used devices to authenticate to mobile and desktop online platforms. FIDO2 aims to address the worldwide password issue and other problems in conventional login.

It enables device-based authentication that uses cryptographic credentials that are unique across internet sites and never leave the user’s registered device. Additionally, these cryptographic keys are never stored on a server, making them unsusceptible to theft and other fraudulent tactics.

Account owners may use simple built-in processes like mobile facial biometric authentication that uses the device’s camera to unlock the cryptographic credentials. The entire process is done in just a few seconds, providing convenience and reducing friction. Furthermore, many mobile devices are manufactured with integrated chips that secure the biometric template, ensuring that it cannot be extracted from the device.

Technological advancements in the identity verification industry have paved the way for modern solutions like multifactor authentication (MFA) that offer robust security and a seamless user experience. These innovative identity verification solutions play a crucial role across enterprises, particularly those operating in a remote work setup.
